World Environment Day is celebrated on the 5th of June every Year and it is the Nation’s principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of our environment with a global theme for this year- “Air Pollution”.
“Every year, approximately 7 million people worldwide die prematurely due to air pollution, with about 4 million of these deaths occurring in Asia- Pacific. The Day, this Year, will bring together communities, individuals, government agencies, industries to explore various sources of renewable energy and green technologies, which in turn will help in improving air quality in cities and regions across the world” Joyce Msaya, Un Environment Acting Executive Director and Assistant Secretary – General of the United Nations.
Since the World Environment Day first held in 1974, the event has grown to become a global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated in over 100 countries.
